Don’t Overcook Them.

If you cook them too long, they’ll lose their freshness and become bitter. You should only cook them until they start to turn golden brown.

Peel them before cooking.

It’s easier to peel an onion when it’s still cold. Put the peeled onion in a bowl filled with ice water. This will keep the onion cool while you work.

Cut them into slices or chunks.

You can also cut the onion into wedges instead of slicing it. If you’re using a knife, make sure to hold the onion firmly against the cutting board so that it won’t slip out of your hand.

Add salt at the beginning of the process.

Salt helps draw moisture out of the onion, making it easier to remove the layers. It’s also an essential ingredient in cooking. Adding salt to the onion before chopping will help prevent the onion from turning brown.

Let them cool down completely before storing them.
