Dill Pickle Chips
Dill Pickles are a popular snack food in the United States. They’re made by slicing cucumbers into thin slices, then packing them into jars with vinegar and spices.
Ingredients
You will need:
- 1 large cucumber (about 2 pounds)
- 3 cups distilled white vinegar
- 1/2 cup kosher salt
How to Make Dill Pickle Chips
Cut the cucumbers into thin slices. Place them in a colander and sprinkle with salt. Let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse off the salt and pat dry with paper towels.
Tips & Tricks
In addition, you can use any kind of bread you’d like for these chips. I used white sandwich bread, but whole wheat would work just as well. If you’re using a loaf of bread, cut it into 1/2″ thick slices.
Tools Needed
In brief, a food processor works best for making these chips. They should be made with fresh ingredients, though, so you might need to buy some spices and other items before starting.
Method
This method uses a different type of cucumber than the first method. Furthermore, cut the cucumber lengthwise into quarters. At first glance, remove the seeds and slice each quarter into very thin strips. Sprinkle salt on both sides of the cucumber strips. Let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse off the salt and pat the cucumber dry. Combine the remaining ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Cook for 5 minutes. Drain the cucumber and transfer to a large bowl. Pour the hot brine over the cucumber and stir to coat evenly. Finally, Let cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
