Juniper berries

are used in many different dishes around the world. They are small cones that grow on junipers trees. Added to food for flavor, but they also have medicinal properties.

History
first cultivated by the Romans, who called them “cypress berries.” In the Middle Ages, an ingredient in medicine and perfume. Today, they’re still in some European countries for flavoring foods and drinks.

Where Can You Find?
They are native to Europe and Asia. They grow wild throughout much of North America, especially in the Appalachian Mountains. If you live near a forested area, you might see them growing along roadsides or in fields.

How To Cook
Juniper berries added to stews, soups, sauces, and other dishes as an aromatic flavor. You can also use them to make tea, wine, liqueurs, and jams.
