In 1607, Spanish explorers brought the first European settlers to Florida. These early settlers planted the first commercial crops of strawberries in what would become the United States.

However, when the Spanish introduced strawberries to Florida, they found that the native plants didn’t produce enough fruit. In 1765, an Englishman named John Bartram brought seeds back from his travels in Europe. He planted these seeds in his garden at Philadelphia, where he lived. These seeds grew into large bushes that produced berries that tasted so good that people called them “strawberries.”

They Came From California.
Today, they are one of the most popular fruits in the world. There are more than 100 different varieties of strawberry plants, and each variety has its own unique characteristics.

They Arrived In Europe In 1753.
It was during the 18th century when Europeans began growing commercially. This was due to the fact that the climate in Europe was perfect for growing.
