Honeydews are a type of cantaloupe that originated in India. Known as muskmelons because of their sweet flavor.

The Honeydew melon was first cultivated by Native Americans.
In 16th century Spain, the Spanish explorers brought honeydews back to Europe. Not until the 19th century when the melons were introduced into North America.

They were called “honey dews” because they tasted like sweet honey.
Today, there are two main varieties of honeydews: the Cantalupensis variety and the Crenatosperma variety. Both grown primarily in California and Arizona.

In 17th century England, people ate them as dessert or snack food.
They were first cultivated by the Aztecs in Mexico during the 15th century. Later introduced into Europe by Spanish explorers.

Today, honeydews grown all over the world.
In fact, there are more than 100 varieties of honeydews worldwide. Found in tropical regions, such as India, Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia.

Also known as cantaloupes, muskmelons, crenellated watermelons, and sometimes even watermelon gourds.
Honeydews are actually a type of melon, not a true cucumber. Grown in warm climates with high humidity levels. Their fleshy rind covered by thin skin that contains wax. This makes them very juicy and sweet.
