Pumpkin carving is a fun way to celebrate fall, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind before you start cutting into that big orange gourd.

Choose The Right Pumpkins.

You’ll want to choose pumpkins with smooth sides, as these will make carving easier. If you’re going to carve a jack-o’-lantern face, select a pumpkin with a flat top.

Cut Out A Hole In The Center Of The Pumpkin.

Next, cut out a hole in the center of the pumpkin using a sharp knife. This will allow you to insert candles inside the pumpkin without burning yourself.

Decorate The Outside.

Now that we’ve carved out the perfect shape, it’s time to decorate the outside. Start by cutting out eyes with a small paring knife. Then use a toothpick to draw lines down the sides of the face. Finally, paint the entire pumpkins orange.

Add Some Details Inside.

Once you’re done painting, add details inside the pumpkins using a black marker. Draw a mouth, nose, and eyebrows. You can also write “Happy Halloween” on the side of the pumpkin.

Let It Dry.

After you paint the face, allow it to dry completely before adding any details. This will help prevent the paint from smearing. If you do notice some smears, use a toothpick to remove them.
