Onion pickles are delicious on sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs. They also add flavor to salads and soups.

This recipe will help you learn about the different ingredients needed to make this delicious side dish.
You’ll need some fresh onions, salt, sugar, vinegar, mustard seeds, and spices. Start by cutting off the ends of the onions and slicing them into thin slices. Then cut each slice into quarters. Next, place the sliced onions into a large bowl with the salt and sugar. Mix well so that the onions are evenly coated. Let sit overnight. In the morning, drain the onions and rinse them under cold water.

Place the onions back into the same bowl and cover with the vinegar. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for 3 days. After three days, drain the onions again and rinse them under cold running water. Drain the onions and pat dry with paper towels. Add the mustard seeds to a small skillet and heat until they start popping. Remove the pan from the stove and pour the contents into a jar. Allow the mixture to cool completely before placing the lid on the jar. Store the jar in a dark cupboard for up to one year.

The Process.
In order to make onion pickles, you will need to follow these steps. First, wash the onions thoroughly. Next, remove any green tops. Then, chop the onions into pieces (about 1/4 inch). After that, place the chopped onions into a large bowl. Add the salt, sugar, vinegar, and water. Mix everything together well. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 24 hours. This allows the flavors to develop. Once the onions have cured, transfer them to clean glass jars. You should fill each jar with about 2 cups of onions. Cover the jars with lids. Store the jars in a cool, dry location. Check the jars every few days to ensure that the onions aren’t spoiling. Enjoy the delicious results!

We’ve got some tips and tricks along the way so you don’t get stuck with a batch of pickles that taste like onions!
You’ll need to start by slicing up your onions into thin slices. Then, place these slices into a bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak overnight. This will help remove any dirt and other impurities. After soaking, drain the onions and rinse them under running water. Next, add 1/2 cup of salt to the onions. Mix well and let them sit for at least 30 minutes.

Drain again and repeat this process until the water runs clear. Now, transfer the onions to a clean container and pack them tightly together. Cover the container with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 days. At the end of the three days, drain the onions and discard the liquid. Rinse the onions under running water and pat dry. Place the onions back into the same container and cover with fresh water. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and stir well. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the onions to cool completely before transferring them to jars. Once the jars are filled, seal them and store them in a dark, cool area for 6 months.
