Patatas Bravas

Patatas bravas (potatoes fried in olive oil) are an authentic Spanish dish that originated in Valencia. The name comes from the Valencian word for “brave” or “courageous.” They are one of Spain’s most popular dishes. and are made by frying potatoes in olive oil until they turn golden brown.

The dish is usually served with spicy sauce or salsa verde.
You can make patatas bravas at home using any type of potato. However, russets work well because they hold up better when cooked. If you use red potatoes, cut them into small cubes so they cook evenly.

Cut the Potatoes into Small Pieces.
After cutting the potatoes into small pieces, add them to a large pot with enough water to cover them completely. Bring the water to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook the potatoes for 20 minutes or until tender. Drain the potatoes and set aside.

Wash Them Well.
Next, pour the olive oil into a skillet and place it over high heat. Once hot, add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the potatoes and stir well to coat them with the oil. Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately.

Peel them.
If you’re looking for an easy recipe to make at home, patatas bravas are perfect! You can use any type of potato you prefer, but I recommend Yukon Gold potatoes because they hold their shape better than other varieties when fried.

Slice them into Thin Rounds.
Once you’ve sliced your potatoes into thin rounds, add them to a large bowl with enough olive oil to cover them completely. Let them soak for 30 minutes before adding salt and pepper to taste.
