They’re also delicious! Here’s how to get started growing squash.

If you’ve never grown squash before, here’s what you need to know to start growing them at home. You’ll need a sunny spot with good drainage, a container large enough to accommodate the fruit, and seeds.

Choose A Variety That Suits You.

There are several varieties available, each suited to different climates and soil types. Choose one based on how much space you have and what type you’d like to grow.

Plant In The Right Soil.

If you’re planting in an area with clay soil, you’ll need to amend the soil before planting. You can do this by adding compost, sand, peat moss, or other organic matter to improve drainage and add nutrients.

Water Regularly.

Once the seeds germinate, keep them watered regularly until the plants reach 2 inches tall. After that, water only when the soil feels dry. Don’t let the soil become too wet because then the roots will rot.

Harvest When Ready.

Squash fruit is ready to harvest once the stem starts to turn yellow. You’ll need to wait until the fruit has matured before picking it.
